Beverage FAQ’s

What is the difference between a Beverage Package, Cash or Credit Bar, Consumption Bar or Capped Consumption Bar format?

The Red Barn’s Inclusive 5-hour Beverage Packages are priced per guest over age 21, pre-discounted, and are inclusive of tax and gratuity. The package choices are tiered starting with the Berwick Beer & Wine Beverage package which includes beer and wine selections as well as Pepsi products. The Hamilton House Beverage package includes everything in the Berwick Beer & Wine package plus a variety of standard liquors. The higher tier the package, the more premium liquors are available for your guests’ enjoyment.

With a Cash or Credit Bar, guests pay for themselves. All beer, wine and liquor options are available for purchase at retail prices plus tax. Similar to when ordering a drink at a restaurant, gratuity is additional and appreciated.

With a Consumption Bar, all beer, wine and liquor options are available to guests at retail prices. The applicable tax and gratuity is then added and the designated Host pays the bar bill at the conclusion of the reception.

With a Capped Consumption Bar, the Host provides the Coordinator with their budget for the Bar tab in advance. All beer, wine and liquor options are available to guests at retail prices. When the bar budget is met, tax and gratuity is then added and the Host pays the bill after which the bar format is changed to a Cash or Credit Bar for the remainder of the reception.

Can we provide our own alcohol?

The Red Barn has a liquor license. It is therefore illegal to bring any outside alcohol whatsoever onto the premises (that includes nips and closed personal containers). Should there be particular item that is important that you have available at your reception or event, please discuss this request with your Coordinator.

Can I add a liquor from a higher tier Beverage package to a lower one for an upcharge?

The Beverage Packages are priced according to the liquors included in each package. Should you wish to have a particular liquor available to your guests, simply choose the Beverage Package that is inclusive of that liquor option.

Are signature drinks allowed?

Yes! Up to 2 signature drinks are included in our 5-hour Hamilton House, Cape Elizabeth and Casco Bay Beverage Packages. Your chosen signature drink/s must contain liquor/s available within your chosen package. We recommend limiting the signature drink to 3 ingredients or fewer in order to cut down on wait times at the bar and/or choose a drink which can be batch-prepared in advance. Frozen and blended drinks are unavailable. If you do not chose a 5-hour Beverage Package that includes liquor (and for non-wedding events), we are happy to prepare and offer up to two signature drinks for an additional mixing fee.

How many bartenders will be serving drinks at my wedding reception or event?

The number of bar staff at a Red Barn event depends on the number of guests expected to attend. For example, a wedding reception of 150 guests there will typically include two bar staff serving at the main foyer bar and a third bar staff member at a an additional beer & wine station on the veranda. For weddings with 175+ guests, an additional bar and bartender/s may be added.

Do you have restrictions regarding shots and martinis?

For the well-being and safety of our guests, we not allow shots or martinis at The Red Barn.

Do you provide wine service at the tables?

We do not provide table side wine service at The Red Barn.

If we extend the length of our event, can the bar stay open as well?

When a 5-hour wedding reception is extended by one hour, the bar may also remain open as a Cash or Credit Bar for an additional 1/2 hour. For other events, the bar can remain open for a maximum of 4 hours.

Do you have bar restrictions regarding the last hour of a wedding or event?

For the well-being and safety of our guests, a maximum of one drink per guest may be ordered from the bar at one time during the last hour the bar is open.
